Microsoft Satya Nadella once stated that “every company is now a software company.” Securing a modern application is synonymous with securing the business itself. With numerous stakeholders, integrated technologies, dependencies, and rapid development cycles, a collective, continuous effort is essential. The responsibility for securing modern applications is shifting from central security teams to application business owners and in-house development teams. This transition necessitates new approaches to testing, securing, and reporting to address the unique challenges faced by these groups. Security context and translation are critical elements in ensuring teams have the information and knowledge to optimally digest and action. This session explores the modern application transformation across enterprises and some of the lessons learned by IOActive and Edgescan across our clients.

Gunter Ollmann, CTO IOActive

As CTO for IOActive, Gunter Ollmann is focused on incubating and launching IOActive’s next-generation of strategic security services and technology.Gunter has spent his career building and leading global consulting and product solutions teams spanning the cybersecurity domain and providing expert security council to Fortune 100 companies. Prior to IOActive he led product innovation and strategy for Devo as their CTO, and previously served as CSO for Microsoft Cloud and AI Security division – incubating and driving multiple commercial products and services whilst protecting the world’s largest cloud applications and infrastructure. He has been at the forefront of applying machine-learning (ML) and AI technology to cybersecurity services for over a decade, holds multiple cyberthreat detection and mitigation patents, and has overseen and guided the invention and patent process of hundreds of core technology patents. Gunter is a widely respected authority on security issues and technologies and has researched, written and published hundreds of technical papers and bylined articles.

Tim Lekan, Global Technical Account Manager

Timothy V. Lekan, spent several decades working as a Director & Business Information Security Officer (BISO) in ‘Information Technology Security and Compliance’ for one of the United States top academic, medical, and medical research institutions. Specializing in several security domains, such as Vulnerability Management; Application Security; Risk & Compliance. In recent years Tim has spent the last decade working as a consulting ‘Security Solutions Architect’ for Qualys’ top global fortune 50 and fortune 100 companies. For the last several years he has moved to Edgescan where he provides consulting and Technical Account Management for Edgescan’s top-tier global clients. Tim brings his decades of leadership and practical information security experience to assist clients and partners with their information security programs. Tim is known for his simple and straight forward approach, along with his open and honest communication style.
